Functionality means that while aboard a sailboat, certain necessities such as a sprayhood, grab rails, storage space, navigation table, equipment, and electrical wiring, are easily accessible and therefore facilitate one’s sailing experience allowing them more time to enjoy the cruise.
The addition of a sprayhood protects guests from wind and spray. When not in use, there is a special molding recess (51.2 and 56.1 only), surrounding the companionway that enables neat storage of the spray hood. The spray hood includes removable windows that provide extra ventilation when needed.
There are grab rails in front of both helm positions and wooden grab rails along the both sides of the deck. The cockpit table has stainless steal grab rails equipped with lights for evening use. There are many stowage areas such as under the saloon seating, the cockpit, lazarette and bathing platform lockers, in addition to vegetable rack drawer and cupboards throughout.
Fresh water pumps, water heaters, and air conditioning fan coils are fitted under the saloon seats, making them easy to inspect and repair. The freshwater tanks are made from stainless steel and are positioned under the cabin berths, whilst the holding tank is placed in a separate area of the stern. This is also easily accessible.
The engine compartment is placed under the companionway and can be accessed from either aft cabin or by lifting the companionway steps. All Ocean Star yachts are equipped with the latest generation of Yanmar Diesel engines, ranging from 75HP to 150HP. These are coupled to a three blade fixed propeller which give the yachts maximum performance.
The position of the fuel tank is above the engine, in between the two aft cabins enabling easy access for draining. All tanks excluding the holding tank, are stainless steel and equipped with inspection hatches for cleaning and inspection.
